as a film composer,

Spencer has scored short films by a number of directors, including Colter Fellows, Austin Crum, Cedric Gegel, and Josh Little. Spencer also composed the conference theme for TedxYouth@Columbus2014.

as a musical theater keyboardist,

In addition to having accompanied countless auditions for musicals, ensembles, and competitions, Spencer has performed synthesizer and piano in professional and community pit orchestras in and around Columbus, OH, Nashville, TN, New York, NY, and Interlochen, MI where he's also worked in the summer as accompanist for the Interlochen High School Musical Theater Production Program. Spencer currently works as a freelance accompanist, music director, and coach in New York City, and is an active member of Doghouse Ensemble Theatre.

as a music producer,

In addition to recording and editing much of his own music (including Cancer Cycle and The Wait), Spencer has produced a number of recording sessions for various musicians and ensembles. Notable examples include Matt Rafferty's Summer Nocturnes, Aidan McCarter's Mirrors, the Studio Cast Recording of William Finn's Elegies: A Song Cycle, and his own LP Atone, released on Spencer’s record label Sherlock Records.

as a jazz pianist,

Spencer has played in concert with the CYJW/CYJS, learned from and performed with such jazz legends as Bobby Floyd, Jamey Aebersold (including three years of his summer jazz workshops), Byron Stripling, and Bradley Sowash. Spencer has produced and played in jazz recordings, including original jazz film scores.

as a classical pianist,

Spencer has performed with such groups as the Eschaton New Music Ensemble, has accompanied countless auditions and competitions, and has premiered and recorded a number of contemporary classical pieces, including Aidan McCarter's Mirrors.

as a theater composer,

Music and lyrics practically fall out of Spencer's pockets. He's been commissioned by singers young and old, and his songs have been performed around the country in cabarets, recitals, and song cycles. In addition to musical theater, Spencer has composed dramatic scores for productions of such plays as Dial 'M' for Murder and settings of songs for Shakespeare plays. His composition Cancer Cycle has also been performed in conjunction with the contemporary play Mass Cycle: A Meditation on Cancer. and as a concert composer,

Spencer's solo, chamber, and choral music has been performed by various musicians and ensembles (including the Eschaton New Music Ensemble), and Spencer is always looking for new collaborations. During a residency with the Nashville-based dance ensemble New Dialect, Spencer collaborated with a pair of dancers to craft an original piece together, The Wait, which performed as part of Third Voice in various locations in Nashville in early February 2018.
