Composer, writer, filmmaker, music director, pianist, audio engineer - Spencer's artistic skills and passions range from the highly technical to the broadly creative. He makes an excellent collaborator for a variety of musical, visual, theatrical, or narrative projects, and can adapt quickly to changing circumstances or expectations. Those who have worked with him know that once he's committed to a project, he does everything he can to ensure its successful realization.
Spencer comes from a diverse combination of formal training, professional and amateur experience, and self-education. He attended Interlochen Arts Camp in 2015 and received a Fine Arts Award in Music Composition. In 2016, he graduated from the Interlochen Academy with a Young Artist Award. As a National Merit Scholar and a Curb Scholar, Spencer attended the Blair School of Music for three semesters then left to pursue his art in New York City. He has studied classical piano under E-Z Notes founder Lucy Chu and concert pianist Craig Nies. He took jazz piano lessons with Bradley Sowash, Craig Allen, and occasional piano and Hammond B-3 organ sessions with Bobby Floyd. In addition to formal training, Spencer has been working professionally as a musical theater accompanist since age 12.
Spencer has a broad range of well-developed skills, and has worked as the following: accompanist/keyboardist (classical voice/instrumental, musical theater, etc.), music director (musical theater voice and pit), composer (concert, film, theater, dance, jingles, events), transcriber (for Broadway composer Andrew Lippa), entertainment pianist (restaurants, parties, markets), videographer (live performances, events, auditions), audio engineer (film, music, voice), and more. He enjoys working in-person, but is also happy to take long-distance commissions such as recording accompaniment tracks, scoring films, transcribing and arranging music, and composing for dance - all of which he has done from several states away.
